IF YOU COULD ONLY TALK TO HORSES

Š by Gordon Adair

Wouldnšt it great if your horse could talk to you. What would you talk to your horse talk about? Would you ask your horse something useful such as having him tell you about his past training and life experiences? If this could be done you could solve those various problems that have been haunting you. Like why does your horse get so nervous about being tied. Your horse may just tell you he became afraid when a saddle fell of his back while tied up. As the saddle fell your horse jumped away from the saddle and pulled back on the tie hurting himself. This left a bad association that continues to make your horse nervous to this day.

Surprisingly enough, horses and people do talk. When I talk about communicating with horses and establishing a language, I am not saying people do all the talking. Horses will talk to you in different ways if you pay attention. By watching your horsešs body language, emotions, and eye and ear expressions you can find out what your horse is afraid of. Your horse is telling you the saddle is part of the tying fear when his fear expressions increased as the saddle is carried toward him. By watching and deciphering your horsešs habits you can determine what has happened in his distant and immediate past. You can determine what activities the owner has done correctly or incorrectly. How much exercise and training your horse has been receiving. What bad experiences your horse has had. You could also find out whether or not your trainer has really been working your horse like he agreed to. The best or worst thing, depending on how you look at it, is that horses have no sense of loyalty to anyone. Horses will tattle on everyone, including you. Your horse will tell anyone who will listen what you are doing correctly and incorrectly. Habits have to come from somewhere and be allowed to strengthen by someone. People will often try to hide their mistakes or make excuses to cover up why a problem exists. This cover up may fool a few people, but not people who really understand horses. A person who understands horses is not using magic. They just know how horses think, act, react, and communicate to each other. Then they make this knowledge work for them.
