Do you feel you are lacking your horsešs respect

This obstacle teaches horses to push through fears

Introducing different objects for desensitizing

An easy way to build confidence

The reward for work well done

Achieve a great relationship with your horse

There is nothing more rewarding then having hands on experience and being apart of your own horse's education. The more you learn about horses the more you will enjoy them. Knowing how to ride is one step, knowing how to maintain your horse's training is another, and knowing how to teach people is the ultimate experience.

When I was apprenticing I would ask the trainers "Why do we this method over another?" Their response was: "Because that is the way it is done." I had learned many techniques required of training but, I never knew why or when the procedures where to be used. This was like having all the required pieces of a puzzle but having no idea how to put them together to make the perfect picture.

There are many good trainers but few can explain their techniques. I vowed that I would never say "That is just the way it is done.",to my students. The majority of my work is concentrated on teaching owners to understand the philosophy of the horse and how to communicate with them. I have formulated rules and techniques which will help you know when, where, and why to do what is needed to be successful with your horse. Communicating with horses is the same with every breed, sex, and riding style.

Training a horse is very rewarding but it does not compare to watching students communicating properly with their horses. The ultimate reward is when a student tells me of the compliments they have received by other horse people.

There are four avenues that I explore prior to training and instructing to ensure they are not hindering your ability to achieve peek training performance.

1. Nutrition - Most horses are over fed and under worked fueling more energy then the owner can handle, requiring longeing and extra work time to reduce the energy. On the opposite end of the spectrum, not consuming enough nutrition will not provide enough energy for a willing attitude, causing extra training dealing with a lethargic horse. A proper nutritional balance must be achieved to avoid causing injuries and the loss of money from extra training time.

2. Hoof care - The average horse carries three hundred pounds on each front hoof and two hundred on each hind hoof and stands on them over twenty hours a day. A horse may not show any lameness yet can have enough discomfort causing unwillingness to perform. This is the same as us wearing uncomfortable shoes, we are not physically sore it is just undesirable to stand or walk.

3. Equipment - The cheapest and prettiest is not the best, one size does not fit all. Your equipment must fit properly and be comfortable for all parties. An irritable horse is hard to teach and training is difficult to perform when the equipment is distracting you.

4. Health - Horses wear their teeth down on one side from chewing, leaving ridges that are sharp and can cut your horse's tongue or cheek. The ridges should be filed down at least once a year. Wolf teeth when in contact with the bit can cause pain and should be removed.

I specialize in teaching owners to ride and train their own horses.

A common mistake horse owners often make is not working with their horses in training. Once at home the owner's horse performs differently because a horse will perform one way for a trainer and another way for the owner. It is critical for the trainer and horse owner to work together so the horse will act the same for both parties. Horses naturally like to please people so they will do what people want whether it is right or wrong. It is up to the owner to know how to ask a horse to perform properly.

Full Training Programs

The best program to follow is placing your horse in full training. This will give me time to correct any problems and begin the proper cues for advancement. This way when you are taught how to perform a procedure your horse will understand what you are asking. It is very hard for you to teach your horse something when you have not done the procedure before. You will receive lessons twice a week to learn what I have taught your horse and how to continue the teaching. This way you will be taking part in your horse's training while learning how to communicate.

Once you begin understanding the philosophy of horses it is best to slowly wean yourself from my guidance.
