WHERE TO BEGIN YOUR NATURAL HORSE TRAINING © by Gordon Adair Do you have a horse problem that you need to fix or do you just want to improve your horse communication and training skills? Learning to train your own horses is easier then you think. So where do you begin? 1st) Success Starts With You Anyone who touches a horse is a trainer whether they want to be or not because, whatever is allowed, good or bad, will be repeated. As a trainer you should say: yes or no to everything your horse does in your presence. The most valuable ingredient with horses is your knowledge and experience. The less you know the more your horse needs to know, the more you know the less your horse needs to know! To gain knowledge and experience you should always be part of your horse's training and care. You should know feeding and care, hoof care, and training from ground handling to riding training even if your horse is trained or cared for by professionals. You make the decisions for your horse so, your success is based on your education. 2nd) Look At Your Horse I have found that eighty percent of behavioral problems are caused by general and hoof care. True problems are hard to see and may be minor discomfort causing unwillingness to perform and learn with a bad attitude. When horses feel good from proper care they will be more willing. Of the thousands of horses I have changed from dangerous to sweethearts this principle were the true causes. All problems have a cause and an affect. Eliminate the cause there is no longer a problem, training the affect is never ending. Knowing how and why horses are designed to live in nature will help you care and train in the best way. 3rd) Learn The Horses Ways And Language You must learn the horse's world so you can teach horses the human world. Animals from cats to dolphins will accept you as their own when you respect their ways and open a bridge for communication. The better you understand their customs and language the faster you can teach the human world. Your knowledge of horses will determine whether you are a leader or servant to your horse! You must earn the right to be the leader in the horse's way, not by using force. 4th) Practice Training Techniques There are everyday training steps that everyone should follow no matter the level of your horse's education. These training steps are the building foundation of all future training success. If there are short cuts professionals will use them, don't try to reinvent horse training learn from past experience for everyone's safety. If you have fears then you need more steps to give you confidence, it doesn't matter what you do, what is important is your horse is willing. Don't go on blind faith, testing your horse is the best insurance policy. Training techniques are designed to establish and practice the horse to human language for the control of movement and - what if scenarios. Testing and practicing what can go wrong at home is easier and safer than in a strange and scary place. Conclusion Work with a professional who teaches you how to train yet, does the dangerous work. Be part of every step so you can maintain your horse when the professional training is finished and your training starts. If you don't understand your horse will not either and chaos will begin! Practice with another trained horse for easier understanding and safety. The best thing you could do is learn before you buy. Trainers have lesson horses you can learn on so, you can make a better decision on the breed and training level of your future horse.
